First Lose And Res Win
|
The first lose 1-2 at home to Crayford Arrows, in the Arnold and May Cup, the welsh goalscorer
was Steve Smith from the penalty spot
In the Kent Junior Cup
Welsh Tavern Reserves 3 - Erith Tigers 1
After a slight derailment in our last outing against FC Elmstead a couple of weeks ago now, the
Reserves Glory Train is back on track after a deserved victory in the Third Round of the Kent
Junior Cup against Erith Tigers. Going up the slope in the first half and not having played
anywhere near our full potential, going into the break 2 - 0 up was about the only positive to
take out of the game. First up was John Ashdown who deserved his bit of good fortune when his
tireless work in closing down two defenders, eventually rewarded him with the ball. From then on
there was only ever going to be one outcome, obviously his cross from the byline and about 2 yards
from the corner flag was going to end up nestling in the top corner. Next up was JP, signed on
transfer deadline day for a club record fee of two potatoes, two bangers and an onion ring on
every match day. Pre Match instructions from Finch and Webb were to put every corner on top of their
keeper, who looked like he might struggle to get his large posterior off the ground, this was most
certainly to prove evident in the second. Direct from a corner, JP's inswinging cross found its way
into the back of the net. Listen to us boys and you'll go far.
With changes being threatened early in the second half unless a vast improvement was seen, we bucked
our ideas up and pretty much controlled the second half. We even had the added security of Bruce Wobbelaar
being on hand to keep the opposition at bay with a couple of one on one saves. After knocking on the door,
the third goal eventually came. DAVE Webb picking the ball up about 50 yards from goal, hit one on the
half volley. In slow motion, the keeper seemingly glued (literally) to the floor, made some movement that
replicated that of a Subutteo Goalkeeper and was eventually lobbed with the ball about two feet off the
ground. 3 - 0 game over. Erith Tigers did manage to pull one back before being reduced to ten men.
With Man Flu having played its part in the performance of the boys it really is easy to separate the men
from the boys. Hergo, 73 years old and still putting in performances week after week, had been burdened
with the worst known case of Man Flu all week, but still soldiered on at work, not even taking a single day
off sick (that is why he is skipper). Poor old little Ben Webb, with a very mild case of Man Flu which most
would call the sniffles, took a week off. The long and short of it was that we dug deep and got the result
needed. Next up, a trip to Margate, well here's hoping anyway.

Vets Win

The Reserves Lose
|
Welsh Tavern Reserves 1 - FC Elmstead 2
This was always going to be a tricky tie for the Reserves after the opening league game of the season saw the Welsh come out
2 - 1 winners against their oponents. Going into the game on a 4 match winning streak though, we could not have been in more
confident mood. With the winners of this one likely to face Barnehurst, it would have been a chance to test ourselves against
one of the top boys. Unfortunately it was not to be.
Going down the slope in the first half with the wind, snow, rain etc with us, we were looking to get in at half time with a
nice little cushion. With Geppetto pulling the strings in the middle of the park, chances were being created, Wisey coming
the closest when hitting the bar with a header. Danny Houckham continued his superb form when a couple of minutes before
half time he produced a great save, when confronted with a one on one situation with the Elmstead Centre Forward. Just previously,
Jay Chambers continued his great scoring form by ensuring that we had something to defend going up the slope, taking us into
the break 1 - 0 up.
The second half was always going to prove a difficult task with all the elements against us, however, with all the boys working
tirelessly and the back line looking more assured as each week goes by, the management team of Finch and Webb were confident but
wary at the same. Anyway, to cut a long story short Elmstead nicked a couple of goals about 20 minutes into the second half to put
them 2 - 1 up. We pushed hard, Faulks coming close when his thunderous volley was blocked before it would have left the keeper
rooted to the spot and nestled in the top corner, but could not get the goal to take it into extra time.
Final score - Welsh Tavern Reserves 1 - FC Elmstead 2.
The Reserves Quadruple bid has been thwarted for another year.
Belly, I can confirm that I have now cancelled the hotel I had booked for the boys for the final. I will get the club funds
back to you asap.
The Vets lost 4-5 at home to Tudor Sports Vets, the welsh goalscorers were Harry,
Paul Davis, Sion Owen and Daryl Apps.

First Team Lose and Reserves Win
|
The Welsh Tavern first team lost 1-6 at home to Centresports United in the Kent Premier Cup, the Welsh goalscorer was Jack Wilson with a
penalty in the first half Welsh Tavern Reserves 3 - Top House 2 (aet) With the Welsh Tavern Reserves going into the game in buoyant
mood after three consecutive wins, there was a wave a confidence floating around the post match dressing room. This was probably mostly
due to the fact that the starting line up had been announced and DC (Darren 'The Workhorse' Chambers) would be starting in the middle of
the park, life just couldn't get much better.
The first half ended with the Welsh going in 1 - 0 ahead after JP saved Faulkner's blushes. With some great build up play, the ball found
itself wide into the path of the marauding Wisey on the left. A low first time cross split the back line and keeper and found its way to
Faulkner on the far stick. Only a yard out and the goal at his mercy, it was a foregone conclusion, or was it?? Somehow and even after the
Sky Sports experts had been to work on it i'm still not quite sure how, but Faulks managed to hit the bar!!! JP was on hand to volley in
the rebound. There were rumours of a bobble but the pitch was like a carpet so it has to go down as a Ronny (Rosenthal). The first half
ended with Danny Houckham pulling off (don't be rude) a superb save low down to his left, ensuring that we went into the break ahead.
The game should have been all over by the time Top House equalised, but credit to the lads, they went straight up the other end and Faulks
made amends by putting us back in front. With the match approaching the last 5 minutes, it was looking like the Welsh were on their way to
the next round. That was until an absolute worldy was struck taking the match into extra time. With extra time turning into a fairly tight
affair, it was only decided by a complete howler by the Top House keeper. DC hit a powder puff free kick from about 35 yards which seemed
to take an absolute age to hit the back of the net, this was aided by the keeper going down in instalments and diving over the top of the
ball. The general consensus is that even Noddy would have saved that one. 3 - 2 full time.
With Robinho now signed and the squad looking stronger and stronger, fingers crossed things are starting to look up for the Reserves.
The Vets lost 1-5 away to Metrogas Vets, the welsh goalscorers was Andy Jones.

The Welsh Tavern first team were away to SMP in the Kent Premier Cup and won on penalties 5-4 on penalties, after
the match had ended 2-2 at the end of extra time, the welsh had taked the lead in the first half with a fine volley
by Richard Everitt, it look as if was going over the bar, but the ball drip at the last moment to nested in the top
of the goal. The second came from the penalty spot after there was a handball and Steve Smith scored with ease to
put the Welsh 2-0 up at half-time. It the second SMP scored two goals to take the nmatch in to extra-time, in
extra-time the Welsh goalkeeper Sam Mills make three fine saves to keep the welsh in the match still and in penalties

and thwe first goal did not come until the forty minutes of the first half when Daryl Apps and Lee Rhodes both
when for a lose ball after goalkeeper could only palm a shot away, but Lee Rhodes get the final touch to the ball
so the Welsh were 1-0 up, in the second half Tullamore scored to level the game, which is were the match stayed
until fifthteen minutes form the end when Lee Rhodes scored again and Joe Hedger aded a third goals just before
